• anonymous source: someone who provides information without their identity being revealed
• aspiration: something you strongly hope to achieve in the future
• backbone: the most important supporting part of something
• blasphemy: speech or behaviour that shows disrespect towards God or religion
• damn: a word used to add emphasis, especially when annoyed or angry
• euphemism: a milder or less offensive expression used instead of a stronger one
• evidence: information or objects used to show that something is true
• how dare you?: used to express anger or shock at someone’s behaviour
• I told you so: used to point out that your earlier warning or prediction was correct
• labyrinth: a complicated network of passages that is difficult to escape from
• maze: a complicated system of paths designed to be difficult to find your way through
• off the record: said privately and not intended to be officially reported
• outraged: extremely shocked and angry
• penalty: a punishment for breaking a law or rule

• testimony: a formal statement given by a witness
• to address a problem: to deal with or give attention to a problem
• to discriminate against someone: to treat someone unfairly because of a particular characteristic
• to let someone go: to dismiss someone from a job or allow them to leave
• to penalize: to punish someone for breaking a rule or doing something wrong
